Our Work

The Full Chimney Trade, Done From One Shop

Cleaning crews that can lay brick, masons who understand draft — in a city of shared flues and boiler stacks, you want both skills on the same truck.

Flue & Chimney Cleaning

Creosote in the fireplace flue, scale in the boiler run — both come out with full-length brushing and sealed vacuum recovery, leaving the passage clear and the draft honest.

  • Complete rod-and-brush passes, every flue
  • Smoke shelf & damper cleared of debris
  • Containment sealed before brushing starts

Free On-Site Inspections

The assessment costs nothing and hides nothing: what's sound, what's failing, what can wait. Owners who need it on paper — closings, claims, tenant files — order the $149 written record.

  • The visit and the verdict: free
  • Written record w/ photos: $149, optional
  • All flues covered, boilers included

Chimney Rebuilding & Restoration

When a century-old stack is past patching, we take it down to sound masonry and rebuild it true — matched brick, reinforced crown, and venting that finally meets today's code.

  • Partial & full rebuilds, roofline up
  • Crowns cast with proper overhangs
  • Old-stock brick matching for Victorians

Repointing & Brick Replacement

Newark brick is famously durable; its mortar is not. We grind failing joints to solid depth, repack them with a matched mix, and swap out the spalled units before water claims the wall.

  • Joints ground clean, packed tight
  • Mortar tinted to the existing wall
  • Face-brick swaps for spalled units

Caps, Crowns & Dampers

An uncapped Newark flue collects rain, leaves, pigeons and the occasional squirrel family. Stainless caps and top-mounted dampers seal the opening without starving the draft.

  • Screened stainless caps, all flue sizes
  • Top-sealing dampers that cut heat loss
  • Crown cracks sealed before they spread

Leak Tracing & Flashing Repair

Chimney leaks travel — the stain in the second-floor bedroom often starts at a flashing seam ten feet away. We track the water to its entry, then fix the entry, not the symptom.

  • Entry points located before quoting
  • Step & counter flashing set in metal
  • Breathable water repellents to finish

Stainless Liners & Boiler Flues

Half this city's chimneys vent heating equipment through passages older than the equipment's grandparents. Insulated stainless liners bring fireplace and boiler runs up to code, sized right.

  • Boiler & water-heater flue relining
  • Insulated systems for wood burners
  • Multi-flue buildings lined flue by flue

Fireplace & Hearth Revival

Painted-shut Victorians, cracked fireboxes, hearths that haven't glowed since the seventies — we bring them back to working order and make sure the flue upstairs deserves the fire below.

  • Firebox rebuilds in refractory brick
  • Smoke chambers parged smooth
  • Sealed fireplaces returned to service

Seven Signals Worth A Phone Call

Every expensive chimney failure in this city announced itself first. These are the announcements.

  • Smoke pushing back into the roomThe draft has quit — blockage, damper or pressure. Where smoke goes, CO goes quieter.
  • Brick dust along the foundation lineThe stack is grinding itself down, joint by joint, one freeze at a time.
  • A tenant reporting fumes or odorsIn a multi-family, treat any flue complaint as real until a technician proves otherwise.
  • Yellowed stains climbing an upstairs wallWater is inside the chase and traveling. The source sits higher than the stain.
  • A lacquer-black shine up the flueGlazed creosote, the chimney-fire fuel. No fires until it's professionally removed.
  • Brick faces popping off in sheetsSpalling has reached the structure. Every winter now costs courses.
  • A boiler flue nobody's ever servicedIf the building heats through the chimney and no one remembers a cleaning, it's overdue.

The Questions Newark Owners Actually Ask

Free inspection — what's the asterisk hiding?

Nothing, once you read it: the technician's assessment and the on-site walkthrough of findings cost zero, full stop. The $149 applies only to compiling those findings into a written record with photographs — the document closings, insurance claims and landlord files run on. Checking your own chimney? Skip the paper and pay nothing. Selling the building or filing a claim? The record earns its fee.

When are you open?

Monday through Friday the phones and trucks run from seven in the morning until seven at night — twelve working hours, five days. Weekends the shop stays dark; urgent weekend messages get Monday's first slot. Active fire or suspected carbon monoxide is a 911 matter before it's a contractor matter, any day of the week.

Do you handle two- and three-family buildings?

They're our bread and butter. A classic Newark three-family can run four flues up one stack — two boilers, a water heater and a fireplace, each needing its own path. We trace and service them individually, and give owners per-flue findings so nothing gets billed by guesswork.

The chimney only vents my boiler. Do I still need you?

Especially then. Boiler flues fail silently — no smoke smell, no drama, just scale and debris narrowing the passage until exhaust starts wandering into the basement. An annual check on any heating flue is cheap insurance against the one gas you can't smell, and here the check itself is free.

Repoint now or rebuild later — how do I decide?

You mostly don't; the wall decides. Sandy joints with sound brick means repointing wins, at a small fraction of rebuild money. Water already behind the faces, brick spalling in sheets — the decision has been made for you. The free assessment tells you which side of the line your stack stands on, with no incentive for us to exaggerate: we do both jobs either way.

Can my property manager get insurance certificates?

Before the visit, by email, naming the entity you specify — liability and workers' comp both. Multi-family owners use the $149 written record for their compliance files; that's precisely the use it was designed for.

How disruptive is a cleaning to tenants?

Minimal by design. Each opening gets sealed under containment before brushing, floor protection runs through common areas, and the filtered vacuum keeps soot inside the machine. A single flue takes about an hour; a full three-family morning. We coordinate access so tenants get one clear notice, not four.

What should I do about an urgent problem right now?

During working hours, call (973) 210-4701 and open with the word urgent — falling brick, indoor smoke and fume complaints reshuffle the day's board. Nights and weekends, leave the same message for the first Monday truck. And if there's live fire or anyone feels sick from possible carbon monoxide, get people out and dial 911 before you dial us.
